Crotch Rocket Bone head.

On the way home from work I saw several motorcycles of which some where heading home from Bike week if I had to guess. All of them where pretty tired looking but just going at a steady clip. What got me was this one on a crotch rocket who, along with a camaro, was hauling ass down the on ramp to the interstate. The passenger in the car was leaning way, way out of the window while the bike rode beside the car all down the ramp. Onto the highway they come as the bike backed off a bit and then went right back up beside the car in the same lane. The passenger, still hanging out of the window, reaches over to the bike rider who grabs his hand as the accelerated even faster. A small Blazer, as at first I didn't notice, pulled in behind them mocking every switch from lane to lane the others did. Evidently they were all together. But the blazer got so close that if the rider had taken a spill the Blazer would have flattened him with no time to react.
This is the kind of crap on the highway that gives riders a bad name and raises every one's insurance.
Go ahead and have fun while riding but don't be a dumb ass at eighty plus. Not only were their own lives at risk but those of us near them on the interstate too.

The KickStand Lodge and Fred Kunkel.

It is with sad heart that I have to tell you that Fred has ridden on into that big campground in the sky. He leaves behind his soul mate, Mo, and and the wonderful lodge that they both dreamed about and created for bikers here in North Carolina.
I had sent Fred an email about doing an article on the campground back on November twenty fifth of last year. I waited for a reply and Fred graciously did reply, and apologize for not being able to get back with me sooner. They had been out of town and just returned and on December twenty eighth he sent me an email about wanting to do the article.

There is a thing about having a dream to persue but never acting on it. It's entirely something else to have a dream and make it reality. That is just what Fred and his lady Mo did in Stecoah North Carolina; make the dream a reality. It takes a certain devotion, passion and partnership between a husband and wife to embark on such a business venture and make it work. They took seven acres and built just the kind of place that would appeal to road weary riders. A comfortable haven for relaxation in serene surroundings. The sort of facility that welcomes riders with warm reception and the understanding that only another rider could appreciate. Resting easy with the knowing that you and your motorcycle are in safe secure place. My understanding is that Fred was one of those jovial souls who enjoyed hearing the tales that other riders would share.

Sadly, Fred passed away on January first of this year. While he may be gone in body...his spirit lives on with his wife, children, grandchildren and many friends he made along life's journey. Mo is trying to carry on the dream they both had built for bikers everywhere to have a facility that is both clean and friendly.

Ride free on the winds Fred. May your pipes forever echo through the hills of North Carolina...and beyond.
Win This Motorcycle and other Contests.

I've entered, I don't know how many of these things, over the years and never won a thing. I'd just bet many of you out there have done the same thing too. Rules will state that there is no purchase necessary to win, but I'd bet those entries go into the trash bin faster than a nitro burning Harley down the track does. Think about one of those magazines that has the little window on the return entry envelope. Just by looking at the envelope, they can tell if you also placed an order or only entered the contest. Can you say "shredder" for the non-subscription entries; no way to track those after being thrown out for the trash collector.

Don't forget the contests at area Mall's. They have a nice shiny new car, boat or cruise package on display. Next to each one is a box to drop your entry cards into. Again, it will say "No purchase necessary to win." After a few weeks you wonder what all these offers are that keep coming in the mail trying to get you to buy something. Sometimes phone calls begin coming in and you wonder why, after you have been put on the No call list, they are phoning you. It's because you filled out one of those entry cards at the Mall and it clears them of legal ramifications as you gave them the information.

Have you ever known anyone who has known anyone who's known someone who has won any of these contests? Me either. That McD's Monopoly game is another you never hear or see who, if anyone, has won the million bucks. I have a suspicious mind about those sorts of games. They only release one single winning piece to complete the board game at the very last minute. Chances are that whom ever gets that piece has not been playing the game and just tosses it away, maybe never even looking at it. You'll have a better chance of getting struck by lightening, twice, down in a cave than winning one of these things.

There are exceptions to some contests like the Easy Rider magazine one's to win a Harley. They do give away the motorcycles and even post up in the magazine who the winner is.
If you want to win some sort of contest than try one that is smaller though. Raffles are generally pretty good bets as the number of entries has a set limit thus making your odds better. If there is a huge circulation having a contests, then your chances at winning go way, way down. Motorcycle shops and rallies often have some sort of give away you can enter; usually something you can use too. Try these out if you want a better chance at winning something. Those motorcycle museums are even a good bet as they often give away a great bike with the odds being more in your favor.

Good luck on your contest entries. If you happen to win let me know...but I won't be holding my breath.

PayPal Scam Alert.

Being that so many people use PayPal to purchase motorcycle items online I felt it necessary to make an alert to this email scam. Read the copy of the email below, it is NOT from Paypal. If you EVER have a question about your Paypal account, do not log onto any email link sent that says it is from Paypal. Instead, log on to your account just as you normally would to see if there is a problem.
What these scammers do is get you to log onto the supplied link in their email. After you put in your info they have your account number and full access to your account. As you will see in the email, they want you to wait 72 hours before checking any investigation as they say it takes that much time to research it. LIES! What they want is for you to not check so they can have that time to carry out their illegal game; after 72 hours it will be to late as the damage is already done. (Note that I have changes some of the info in their account they want you to log into.)

2007 HARLEY’S HEROES™ TOUR ROLLS ACROSS AMERICA DAYTONA, FL (March 5, 2007) - Thanks to the generosity of a $1 million pledge from the Harley-Davidson Foundation, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Mobile Service Offices (MSOs) will soon embark on the 2007 Harley’s Heroes™ Tour. The 2007 tour will include stops throughout the U.S. including over one hundred Harley-Davidson dealerships where benefits assistance will be offered to veterans of all ages in communities where they live.
1. The mission of the Harley’s Heroes™ Tour is to provide access to benefits for all veterans and show appreciation for their service and sacrifice to our country. While on the 2007 tour, the DAV MSOs will provide benefits counseling to those veterans who suffer from service-connected injuries but may never have filed a claim for benefits or have found it difficult working with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The 2007 Harley’s Heroes™ Tour will officially kick-off March 5-7 as part of Daytona Bike Week where thousands of motorcycle-loving veterans are drawn to Daytona, Florida. The DAV Mobile Service Office has been designed with Harley’s Heroes™ graphics so Harley riders can easily identify and locate it. It will be based outside the Daytona Convention Center located in the Harley-Davidson demonstration and display area. The MSO will be staffed by highly trained DAV National Service Officers, all of them wartime disabled veterans.
“In the truest sense of our mission to build better lives for disabled veterans and their families, the Harley’s Heroes Tour will enable the DAV to reach a greater number of veterans, better serving them and their families.” said Arthur H. Wilson National Adjutant of the 1.3-million-member DAV. “Many of our youngest veterans are unaware of the benefits they have earned. Informing those veterans of their rights will be the single most important task of the DAV during the 2007 Harley Heroes Tour.”
Many veterans who need the free help the DAV will provide through the 2007 Harley Heroes Tour are among the 1.4 million who have so far fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. According to data released by the VA, 25% of those veterans have already filed claims for benefits.
“The Harley’s Heroes tour will introduce even more veterans to the benefits they are entitled to receive,” said Gail Lione, President of the Harley-Davidson Foundation. “The overwhelming response of Harley-Davidson dealers signing up to participate reflects the commitment our dealers and riders have for the veteran community.”

Beef Stroganoff

Man do I love this stuff. My wife makes this for me as a special treat once a year. For most of the past fifteen years this has been my dinner on my birthday. It is a meal all in it's self so unless you want some french bread to go along with it, there is'nt anything else needed. Well...except for a glass of wine or beer.

More on this later....

Cold Dry Biscuits These here are just two of the books my good friend Billy has written over the years. He has also written children's books of which my son has one. Billy's a cool cat and will even autograph any of his books if you wish. Sometimes, as in my case, his quick mind will think of a quick rhyme to add to the individuality of each autograph. Another cool thing about Billy is that if you want, he'll even come to your child's school and read to them from his books. Yes, Billy is just a big hearted kid wearing big mans clothes and he just loves to share his love of reading and writing with the young ones. If Billy can't relate to you and something in your life in one of his books, well...either you haven't been born yet or you were just born with a silver spoon. Billy's been around the block a few times and has traveled around the country on both his Harley and as a Big Rig driver so it's sure he has seen a few things and has some tales to tell. Life's lessons from being a family man, Trucker, Biker and yes, even homeless at one point and it's been rumored that he can sing too.
Carrot on a Stick
To order one of Billy's books just log onto his site http://www.bloggingpoet.com/ and you'll not be disappointed.
