Some Jack Off Stole My Trailer Hitch

Last week I mentioned having to get my truck worked on; when I picked it up from the shop last Sunday it was minus one trailer hitch. I took it in Thursday after work that week and only made two stops on the way to the shop. First I stopped at the local hospital for less than ten minutes to pick up some meds for my ailing father-in-law. Next stop was the drive thru at the bank then on to the shop. The truck was parked inside the shop when they closed, and I was only there minutes before they did, according to the shop owner. The next day, Friday, I wanted to go by and check on the progress on the truck but was asked not to waste the gas. So I don't know if my truck was really parked inside or not. It's not in my thinking that any of the shop took the hitch but more that it got gone from being parked outside. But again, I want to believe it was inside so the only other possibility is the guy parked next to me at the hospital in the crappy blue car who backed into that spot after I got there. He was just sitting there in the car smoking a cigarette not making eye contact with me when I looked over.
So with all that said and done, I am left with no hitch and we had been to five states and close to 200,000 miles together.
Now I am looking at every truck with a hitch like mine and wondering: "Are you the asshole that stole my hitch?"
I am finding it harder and tougher to trust anyone the more I get ripped off. I fear at times that I may revert back to my previous rage and temper that I have fought extremely hard to mothball for close to twenty years. And I do mean fought hard to do and continue to do so - .
You try to be nice to people and they mistake niceness as weakness.

I would think I'd say something to the shop owners. Sounds like that's where you last had it...now its gone?! Hmmmmm.... just a thought of something I would do. Nice or not, I'd at least ask them.

Oh believe me KT, I did just that as soon as I got home from the shop and noticed it was gone when I walked behind the truck. It was on there when I left work because a co-worker is getting one for his truck and we were looking at mine; Then we both left.
The shop owner insists that they put my truck inside but I wish I'd driven by to check as I have done before. He also said that the bay door comes so close to the truck that they look for hitches before closing bay doors.
When leaving a vehicle at a shop I always clean out all my stuff and grab the hitch, obviuosly, the hitch slipped my mind this time.

those gutless wonders. that is almost as bad as someone stealing my trashcans that were out at the road awaiting pickup. WTF!!!!!!

When I was in college, someone stole the spare tire out of the bed of my roommates pickup. WTD?

I'll never understand people. But I will introduce them to a tire tool if I catch them in the act.

Yes, stealing trash cans is definatly one for the books. I've tried to throw away damaged worn out cans but they always leave them. How do you throw away a trash can anyway?

Allen:
That would suck. Most of this stuff winds up at flea markets.
I was lucky nobody ever got my spare from my other truck. It was the factory one that it came with but would not fit back under the bed after I used it only one time. It was a pain and took my brother and I just to get the carrier to come down. Two of us pushing the tire rack could not get it to go back up with tire on it. That was an AAAARRRRGGGGG moment.
