Carburetor fits of Rage

Well I'm not at a fit of rage...yet but I am getting a little pissed off. Maybe I have said this before and I don't remember so in keeping it short here it is. The carb on my bike is from who the hell knows what and isn't worth a shit. It takes for ever to crank, floods easier than thimble with a gallon pouring in, no reference to it in my manual, looks to be jury rigged to work on my bike, and over all just makes me want to push the bike outside and strike a match to it.

Now the bike came with two extra carbs, one a Mikuni and the other a Bendix 16P12. I want to reuse the Bendix but the choke is gone from it and whoever had it before put some goopie crap liquid gasket in the holes wear the choke shaft is supposed to go - been trying for days to get that mess out - and my Clymer manual does not give a full break down of this carb. If the thing had been left alone on the bike I could figuire it out but it wasn't so I don't. Next, this carb evidently uses a direct bolt on mount manifold instead of the rubber one it has the current carb mounted on with. I can't find anything that shows the correct setup for my 75 Sporty carb and manifold to determine which is original and which is not. Anyone I talk with either has no idea cause the age of the bike or wants to sell me a new high dollar carb I don't have the money for, besides, why can't they get it through their mellons that I want to run the original, is that so friken hard to understand in the english language? The stock system worked on these bikes a long time and obviously the carb on it now don't. I want the simple Bendix on it period! But round here I can't get anyone to work on it at a reasonable price and the HD shop, hahahaha, forget trying to get any help there. They act like these older bikes never existed and look at you like your an idiot if you want a rebuild kit.
Anyone know where or who I could send this thing to for rebuild, correct manifold and pictures of how the thing mounts on stock wise?

Well why didn’t you just ask? I can send pictures, disassembly, assembly, exploded view, specs and crap for the 16P12 right out of the HD service manual. I don’t ‘ever’ get rid of old manuals! There’s an e-mail link on my profile. Tell me where to send it and I’ll see what I can do.

Hell, WillyD or BigD. Me? pfffttt...I know just enough to get myself into trouble.

I'll talk to WillyD and if he needs to we can scan it and convert it into a pdf for you. That way we can just email it to you.

Thanks for all your help, Willy, I got the pages printed out no problem.

FLHX_Dave, I'll find a use for you, maybe parts chaser. Read note to Big Daddy below.

Big Daddy, Yes, so far so good with Willy's pages he sent. I'll be asking you questions I'm sure cause you know Sportsters. I could use help finding the choke parts for the carb. Original HD parts and rebuild kit if you happen to run across any.

I looked on e-bay. There’s several 16P12 carbs for around $40 and kits for about $15. That’s pretty cheap for working on a Harley.

hey Willy, are they buy it now or bids. Where did you look, under engines and components?
