A Fire Place That Won't Work

There is a fireplace in my home that never has a fire in it...ever. It does have a fake log that plugs in to make things nice but no heat is given off. It sure does suck to have such a pretty place to look like it gives you warmth but you can't even use it so it is still cold even with fake logs. All I can do is look at it and dream of hot fires that once came forth a long long time ago.

So what’s stopping you from making it give off heat? Sounds like a sledge hammer and chainsaw will fix the problem.

Willy, the morter in the bricks is the old type from the forties with heavy sand which is falling out in little pieces here and there. Just isn't anyway to repair it inside except tear it down and boy is that costly. It is an old coal fireplace but has burned wood though it didn't draw well without a window open.
