Motorcycle Cargo Rack

Here is the finished Cargo rack for Ironhead Sportsters. I'm going to be making more of these after testing this one. It's finished in eight coats of flat black but the plan is to powder coat in flat black, for now the next few will be painted traditionally.

Here it's been installed on the "test vehicle" and is pretty solid feeling. Holding it, you can right the bike off it's kick stand and move the bike around by the rack. It was given back and forth side to side shaking.

This is a shot of the end caps as well as the decorative Acorn Nuts that adorn the side. The future holds plans for additional add on accessories for the acorn nut points.

From concept, to design to production, assembly, fitting, painting and installation in little more than a week in my spare time. It's proudly made in the good ole US of A. Let the testing begin.

Total cost = ?
Looks pretty sturdy to me. It will last. Powder coating would work as far as surface finish is concerned

Ain’t it just great making your own stuff? Now you can carry the whole damn ice chest instead of just one stupid 6-pack. I like it. Looks kind of retro 60’s.

The one I’m doing will fit on the lower part of the windshield. Bungee on a bedroll, jacket, tool bag or whatever. It’s already built in my brain. Just need to pick up the $5 of steel to make it.

Hey, I need to post the rack WillyD whipped up for me. It's swank!

Came out nice and it looks like you could pack some serious "stuff" with that.

Now about that testing...

Well it hasn't fallen off yet so testing is off to a good start!

As one who has actually seen it up close and personal I'm thinking I need to have you do one for me.

I am seriously considering a solo seat now that I changed the handlebars.

Yea Dave, show us what yours looks like. I like the look of it but then I'm kinda always looking for ways to make it better. If I were to change to use two smaller tail lights mounted on to either side then I could put a tag bracket in the middle thus cleaning up the fender.

Thanks, It's still hanging tough Billy. I'm working on two more right now so all we need to do is figure the best forward brackets for it. You could even still use the stock tail light. I need to get some more gas for my torch.
