Zenith Stereo Console Model X 940(Up Date: This unit is a 1967 Model all hand wired. X = 1967, Y= 1968 and a Z model = 1969. They cost then almost as much as a car. Today people are hooking MP3 players and the like and Plazma TV's through them for Theater quality sound) 
NO! It's not a motorcycle but does sound and look great. Having a lot of fun with this old vintage stereo system. Everything works on it and it is in fantastic shape. My wife and I were put in charge of getting rid of some of her late WWII veterans cousins things. His wife had passed years ago and he at the end of 2011, so the home was still filled with both of theirs belongings. His sons and their wives had been up from out of state going through everything - a daunting task - and what was left, except for some furnishings, we are to dispose of. We took many items to donate to the Hospice league but some items we are torn with. The couple has been our neighbors for years. 

 We have been trying to find more information on this console modal X 940 but have not found a whole lot. It is from the early to mid sixties I gather but can't pin it down. Me, I want to keep it because it is in such fine shape and the sound is so much better than any digital system you find today. Its like theater sound really. I have a ton of vinyl I can spin on it.

 Searching all along the net this model and this particular componant layout is different. Most of the Zenith models found have the record player on the left side while this one is on the right.

Just some of the additional hookups on the back panel. Zenith offered as an option external speakers, wish I could find a set of those babies. This one also has headphone jack on the back which is odd because most headphone jacks are near the radio portion in the cabinet. These old systems have such quality and were made to last, more than can be said for today's technology, but so many have been tossed at dumps for years. The cabinets themselves are of solid wood and very well constructed unlike particle board pieces of today. I find that these are making a come back and the $20 and $40 yard sale finds will do nothing but go up in price as more people rediscover these jewels and especially now that many people are finding the vinyl records are far superior in sound quality to CDs'. This thing is a true beauty, really it is.
This might be a new hobby for me, finding these old systems to save before the value begins to climb out of reach.
