A Question Of Citizenship

I wanted to ask if anyone else out there has ever had to fill one of these forms out. At work they told us we had to fill out these; Department of Homeland Security U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. Now why after all these years are we having to fill out these forms?
I was born here 50 years ago from parents who were born here from their parents who were born here and so on. I'm already on file from the day I was born so why do I have to keep proving it over and over again?
I guess since 1986 "Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) of 1986, the I-9 Form verifies the eligibility of an employee to work legally in the United States. Employers are required to verify this employment eligibility for every employee hired. Employers who fail to obtain the appropriate documentation from new employees can be fined penalties in an amount of not less than $110 and not more than $1,100 for each violation per I-9 employment verification form they failed to fill out and maintain."

When this hasn't been done "All employees (citizens and noncitizens) hired after November 6, 1986, and working in the United States must complete form I-9", and the borders have been over run for years they're trying to play catch up a little to late.

I have never at any job, even while working at the PD, had to fill one of these things out. The question isn't who is legal here but who is illegal. I don't know of anyone else who's had to fill this out, or even heard of it. So why all of a sudden is our company saying we have to fill these out?
I guess if you own a company you'd best be checking over this or else huge fines will be levied against your company.
Here is the link to the form:    http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-9.pdf

The upside is, now the employers will hire U.S. citizen labor. Its just the sign of the times with being over populated from our time in life to the next generation and generations. We, the U.S., have been screaming to make illegals pay for their citizenship and be counted. This is one way to do it. Employers need to do a CYA. Can't really blame them with all the illegals getting free rides with education, medical and housing.

Thanks Ladies for the comments. It helps to see it more clearly now from others views on it.
